University of Makati's Cultural Mapping Project Shortlisted in THE Awards Asia 2025 and partict THE Asia Universities Summit
The University of Makati (UMak) has been selected as a finalist for the Research Project of the Year in Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at the 7th edition of the Times Higher Education (THE) Awards Asia 2025. The ceremony will be held on April 22, 2025, in Macau, concluding the first day of the THE Asia Universities Summit to be attended by Pres. Elyzxur C. Ramos, Atty. Jewel D. Bulos, Ms. Juvy B. Hermosura and 17 Cultural Mappers.
Among 80 finalists, only seven higher education institutions from the Philippines received recognition, including three from the National Capital Region, with UMak proudly among them. The university's cultural mapping initiative, conducted in collaboration with the Makati Museum and the Cultural Affairs Office, documented the city's cultural assets and aligned historical narratives. This endeavor aims to uncover Makati's hidden cultural gems while culminating a deeper connection between academia and the urban community.
The initiative was led by the former College of Arts and Letters, now reorganized as the Institute of Arts and Design and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Their commitment to preserving Makati’s heritage earned the university international recognition. The Center for Quality Management and Development played a focal role in compiling, reviewing, and submitting the project for consideration in the THE Awards Asia 2025.
